Welcome to Fighting Quaker Forge
At Fighting Quaker Forge, I make custom ironwork forged by hand using both traditional and modern blacksmithing methods.
My name is Micheal Mendenhall. I have been blacksmithing for over 18 years. I worked professionally as a blacksmith for 5 years in the ornamental iron industry making architectural hardware for large custom homes and prominent businesses. Visit my Portfolio/Gallery page to see photos from a few of my favorite jobs.
I specialize in historically accurate and functional tooling and accouterments for the Mountain Man, Colonial, and Renaissance eras. I do extensive research on each item I make and try to reproduce each item as accurately as possible.
In addition to historical items I also make Architectural Hardware and iron artwork.
Visit my products page to see standard items I sell for the historical reenactor.
Custom Orders
If you have something that you need custom made I will be glad to chat with you about it and provide an estimate. Most of my items are not in stock but are made to order or custom made. Please be patient as I make the item for you. I will give you an estimate of when it will be finished. I will try to work within your needs of having it for your next event.

Why Fighting Quaker?
The term "Fighting Quaker" came about during the revolutionary war. Members of the Society of Friends, often called "Quakers", were pacifists. It was against their religious doctrine to participate or aid in war. However, in spite of his religious doctrines, the Quaker, Nathaniel Greene, served as an officer of the Continental Army under George Washington. He was dubbed "the Fighting Quaker".
My ancestors were also Quakers. They came from England with William Penn in 1682 and settled in southeastern Pennsylvania and northern Delaware. According to family history, one of my ancestors came to the aid of General Washington during the Battle of the Brandywine in September 11, 1777 that was fought near their farmland in Chester County Pennsylvania. I am not sure of the details of this event but it intrigues me to know my ancestors followed their conscience and helped in the fight for freedom in spite of technicalities of their religion.
As I have been involved in Reenacting the colonial era, I have taken up the persona of my colonial ancestor, and also the nick name of "the Fighting Quaker".
